Captain Cook
'Captain Cook Country' is the area of the Yorkshire Moors and Coast with which the young Cook was familiar, from his birthplace in Marton, now part of Middlesbrough (the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum), his boyhood home in Great Ayton (Aireyholme Farm on the slopes of Roseberry Topping and the Schoolroom Museum in Great Ayton), Staithes where Cook was a shop assistant for a year (Heritage Centre), and Whitby where he learnt his Seaman's trade and was based for 9 years.
