Down to Earth
To visit the Yorkshire Moors and Coast is to feel among friends; there are no airs and graces, what you see is what you get and what you get is a warm welcome and personal service from friendly, down to earth folk.As well as being a beautiful place to visit, the area is also one of family-run farms and rolling farmland; of real people working a real landscape. The region has a wealth of farmers' markets - perfect places to gather all you need for a mouthwatering picnic.
Agricultural shows held throughout the summer months are a great day out for all the family, offering the chance to get up close to a whole range of different farm animals, to watch show jumping and sheep dog trials and to sample tasty home grown produce.
Traditional, small market towns such as Northallerton, Thirsk, Helmsley and Malton, are a feature of the Yorkshire Moors and Coast. All have a homely, unspoilt atmosphere and are home to the most delectable delicatessens supplying naturally smoked kippers, hand dipped chocolates and fruity jams to name just a few.
Unique, locally produced arts and crafts inspired by the surrounding landscape make the perfect memento for your visit. Providing a showcase for many of these, the redeveloped Moors National Park Centre regularly hosts exhibitions by contemporary local artists and craftspeople.
