What's On in the Yorkshire Moors and Coast

The Yorkshire Moors and Coast event's calendar is packed with exciting events and fun-filled days out.

You can have a completely different experience everyday in Yorkshire's Moors and Coast. Spend a day on the beach, visit historic sites and stately homes, enjoy the great outdoors, check out some of the great visitor attractions, follow in the footsteps of TV and film heroes, experience a traditional agricultural show.....the possibilities are endless. From traditional pastimes to more contemporary gatherings, there is something for everyone in the Yorkshire Moors and Coast.

Castle Howard is one of the most famous historic houses in the country and it plays host to the Last Night of the Proms every August, one of the most popular events on the Yorkshire Moors and Coast calendar.  The North Yorkshire Moors Railway hosts special events throughout the year, including the annual Wartime Weekend in October which involves other attractions along the line from Pickering to Whitby.  A number of English Heritage sites lie across the area, famous sites such as Whitby Abbey, Scarborough Castle and Rievaulx Abbey stage exciting re-enactments and displays. 

Yorkshire is synonymous with agricultural shows and some of the most established are held within the Yorkshire Moors and Coast.  The North Yorkshire County and Ryedale Shows are such examples.  For sports enthusiasts, Thirsk Racecourse holds a number of day and night meetings.  Cyclists can not only enjoy some of country's most diverse routes but can also see road racing at it's best with the Ryedale Grand Prix, British Cycling's Premier Calendar Road Race over 185km.

Pickering Showground is becoming a well established venue for major annual events. The Traction Engine Rally comes to town in August, with Motor Sports Yorkshire Rally being staged in October.
